Religion was extremely important to people during the middle ages. Why do you think that was?
Research medieval European Cathedrals.
- why were they so magnificent?
- who built them?
- what did they have inside and outside?
- what do they tell you about power?
- what materials were they built with?
- what else important can you find?
Consider what you have learned about castles and cathedrals then comment about the wealth and power of the medieval church, make sure you can defend your comments when I challenge you on them.
people were scared of invasion and because there was only education in the cathedrals. people didnt know any science like the romans did so they thought that god was really important. why were they so magnificent?to build a magnificent building for the greater glory of God. Cathedrals were far larger than castles - symbolic of their huge importance to medieval society where religion dominated the lives of all - be they rich or peasants.who built them? lots of masters and masons and about 300 labourers.what did they have inside and outside?lots of decorations on the inside like gold and stained glass and paintings on the roof. outside had gardens for the priests food.what do they tell you about power?

Stone that the labourers cut from the ground sometimes marble.what else important can you find?
The cost of these buildings was vast – but the money to pay for these huge buildings came from the people via the many payments they had to make to the Roman Catholic Church
Well because castles were heaps smaller than cathedrals and cost heaps less and were heaps quicker to build i think that the church had even more money than the king and they had more people working for them too.
